Ash Wednesday Services
Please join the Hollywood Adventist Church for one or both of our Ash Wednesday services, February 22.
- The morning service is at 7:00 AM in the Prayer Chapel.
- The evening service is at 7:30 PM in the Fellowship Hall, around the fire place.
We highly recommend coming to both service if you possibly can. During the evening service you will be able to reflect on how this practice has effected your outlook on the world during the day.
For those of you new to Ash Wednesday, it is a day that marks the beginning of the season of Lent in the Christian calendar. It is 40 days of fasting and repentence (plus 6 Sabbaths, on which fasting is traditionally prohibited) that leads up to Easter. The 40 days are derived from Jesus’ 40 days of fasting and temptation in the wilderness at the outset of his ministry. Throughout Biblical history places ashes on one’s head is a sign of humility and repentence.
Traditionally, people who observe Lent give something up. This is not meant to be a punishment but an invitation to a different experience of life. So, I invite you to consider what you need to lay aside during this season to help you become more aware and attentive to God’s kingdom among us. You might also consider what practice or habit you want to begin as a way of connecting more deeply with Christ and his kingdom.
