I’m a Social Justice Christian

Social Justice PSA

This weekend the Hollywood Adventist Church with New Name Pictures and Traveling Muse released a response to Glenn Beck’s comments on Fox News. Beck had been urging Christians to “look for the words ’social justice’ or ‘economic justice’ on your church Web site. If you find it, run as fast as you can.”

The Hollywood Adventist Church firmly holds to the Bible, in this case Micah 6:8, “He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?”

In light of this mission, led by God’s Holy Spirit, to be the presence of Christ in our neighborhood, we are proud to say that we are social justice Christians alongside many of our brothers and sisters in Christ.

Watch the public service announcement below, on the PSA’s website, or at YouTube (where you can share the PSA and leave your own video response). Several notable Christian ministers and theologians, such as Brian McLaren, have responded to this campaign. You can view their responses and find resources for more about social justice at www.socialjusticechristian.com.

Of course, you miss the point. Beck never says not to help the poor, or those in need. He states that as Christians we should individually and as churches do as God calls us to do. When he speaks of social justice he is talking about governmental forced redistribution…which is not charity…charity is voluntary…not forced.
