Peace + Justice

Our ministries of peace and justice are our expression of God’s love for our city. God’s words to Jeremiah and the exiles in Babylon are for us, “seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the LORD for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper” (Jeremiah 29:7). Our Jewish friends have an expression — tikun olam — which means “to heal the world.” It is an expression of our deepest calling as the people of God in the world. We are involved in being agent’s of God’s healing in the following ways:

Faith-Based Community Organizing

We are a member congregation of LA Voice, our local affiliate of the PICO National Network. Through our work with LA Voice we put our faith into action in the community around issues such as housing, homelessness, health care access for children, and youth and gang violence.

Human Trafficking
Through various events and partnerships (CAST, Not For Sale, etc), we have sought to raise awareness about this very horrible injustice that plagues our world.
Advancing Peace
Through our involvement with the Adventist Peace Fellowship, Christian Peace Witness for Iraq and the National Religious Campaign Against Torture, we bear witness to the peace that God is bringing to bear upon the whole world.

Help Obama End Torture

Creation Care
Through our partnership with California Interfaith Power and Light, we work with other congregations and religious groups to combat global warming from the heart of our theology, by doing awareness events, working for environmental justice through legislation and directly affecting our carbon footprint at our church.
